For your convenience: a single Powershell cmdlet to install all required roles & features for ConfigMgr 2012

I’ve been doing quite some ConfigMgr 2012 implementations for our customers now.

One thing that is always difficult to remember is to install alle required Roles & Features. Reading previous installation documents becomes a time-consuming action.

Since we all know we can use Powershell to install Roles & Features I was able to collect all required features and put them in a single Powershell cmdlet:

PowerShell -Command “& {Import-Module Servermanager;Add-Windowsfeature NET-Framework,BITS,RDC,Web-Common-Http,Web-Http-Redirect,Web-Asp-Net,Web-ASP,Web-Health,Web-Log-Libraries,Web-Http-Tracing,Web-Basic-Auth,Web-Windows-Auth,Web-Url-Auth,Web-IP-Security,Web-Stat-Compression,Web-Dyn-Compression,Web-Mgmt-Compat,Web-Mgmt-Console,Web-Scripting-Tools,Web-Mgmt-Service -IncludeAllSubFeature}”

Using this command saves quite some time since all required Roles & Features are installed at once.

This cmdlet does have 3 remarks:

  • The Role Service Dynamic Content Compression is not required by ConfigMgr 2012.However, if you choose to install WSUS on the same server then it is already available
  • WSUS is not included in this cmdlet. WSUS must be installed seperately.
  • Windows Deployment Services (WDS) is not included in this cmdlet. WDS will be installed automatically after enabling PXE or Multicast on a Distribution Point

I hope this cmdlet can help you as well…
